There were lots of wide smiles on muddy faces on Saturday afternoon.

The city of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department hosted a National Mud Day Celebration at the Open Space Visitor Center.

Kids jumped, splashed and explored a giant mud pit and cooled of at water stations. There were also several educational activities, food trucks and free snow cones.

The city had encouraged people to bring a change of clothes.
