IN SANTA FE AND ALBUQUERQUE

Ramona Emerson will present the new paperback edition of her thriller “Exposure” at bookstores in Santa Fe and Albuquerque this week.

Emerson will be in Santa Fe at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Collected Works, 202 Galisteo St., and in Albuquerque at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.

“Exposure” is the second volume in a two-book series. The two novels feature the character of Rita Todacheene, a Navajo forensic photographer working for the Albuquerque Police Department.

In “Exposure” she is called on to help the Gallup police find a serial killer who is targeting Native people. The murders are disguised as death by exposure to the winter cold.

But Todacheene is also dealing with personal and professional crises. Her colleagues look at her with suspicion after it’s been revealed she can see the ghosts of murder victims.

Her job is complicated by the fact that half the department has blackballed her for ratting out a corrupt fellow cop.

Meanwhile, she’s concerned about her aging grandmother, who lives on the Navajo reservation.

Emerson’s first book in the set, “Shutter,” was longlisted for the National Book Award.

Emerson is a Diné writer and filmmaker from Tohatchi, and lives in Albuquerque.

AT COLLECTED WORKS

Small is a journalist, guitarist, composer and arranger, and studied at Berklee.

Collected Works is located at 202 Galisteo St. in Santa Fe.
