Go Fourth and enjoy the holiday: Here are some options for Independence Day fun throughout NM
Fourth of July is a day to celebrate America.
No matter where you are in New Mexico, you’ll have ample opportunities to enjoy fun, fireworks and food while celebrating Independence Day.
Here is a list of some of the events happening Thursday across the state:
Albuquerque
Freedom 4th at Balloon Fiesta Park
Albuquerque’s annual Freedom Fourth celebration will be from 3-10 p.m. at Balloon Fiesta Park. The event is free to the public and family friendly.
Headliner Michael Ray will take stage with local bands for musical performances throughout the evening, with a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.
Kids can enjoy activities like jumpers, climbing walls and face-painting.
Local food vendors will be on site to serve grilled burgers, turkey legs and roasted corn, among other items. Adults can go to The Cantina, where beer, wine and other local spirits will be offered.
Parking is $10. The city will offer free park and ride services from two locations: the Northwest Transit Center, 10401 Ellison NW, and the Eastside parking location at Coronado Center in Uptown. Bus service to Balloon Fiesta Park will start at 3 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. Return trips to the two park and ride locations will begin immediately after the conclusion of the fireworks show. The last bus will leave Balloon Fiesta Park at 11 p.m., according to the city’s website.
Chairs, service animals, umbrellas, strollers and coolers are permitted in the park. Prohibited items include: fireworks, drug paraphernalia, pets, BBQ grills and glass. Bags and coolers will be searched upon entry.
Santa Fe
City of Santa Fe Free July 4th Celebration
Hosted by the Kiwanis Club at the Santa Fe Place Mall, there will be a free Fourth of July celebration starting at 4 p.m.
There will be live music from Una Mas y La ChaCha, Michael Matison and the Kats, Brandon Post and the Brujo Trio.
Santa Fe will offer free parking to attendees. There is a dedicated outdoor area to RV owners, who are welcome to bring an outdoor grill. There will be other food and beverage vendors on site.
Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. Partakers are invited to bring picnic blankets so they can relax and enjoy the festivities.
Rio Rancho
4th of July Celebration
Starting at 5 p.m., Rio Rancho begins its Fourth of July event at Campus Park. Like other cities across the state, the event will have live performances and activities leading up to a fireworks show. Food vendors and a beer garden will be on site. The event is free.
Corrales
4th Of July Parade 2024
The annual Corrales Fourth of July parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Corrales Elementary. The parade will have antique cars, horses and a marching band.
Prepare to get wet as the Corrales parade tradition is to spray spectators with water guns to cool them down. There will be a dry section for those who want to enjoy the fun without getting wet.
The parade will end at 11 a.m. at the Corrales Recreation Center, where there will be food trucks and ice cream booths waiting for hungry participants. There will be a barbecue fundraiser with proceeds going to the Corrales Community Library.
Los Lunas
Village of Los Lunas’ 4th of July Independence Day Parade
Los Lunas’ Fourth of July Parade kicks off at 9 a.m., when locals will drive down Main Street with decorative floats and designs on cars.
The parade will kick off at Heritage Park in Los Lunas across the street from Smith’s grocery, where participants will drive down Main Street. The parade will conclude at the Village of Los Lunas administration offices on Don Pasqual, across the street from Katherine Gallegos Elementary.
Las Cruces
Fourth of July Celebration
Las Cruces will have a concert and fireworks celebration from 6-9:45 p.m at the Pat and Lou Sisbarro Community Park on the New Mexico State University campus. The event will begin with a performance from Black Jacket Symphony, followed by a fireworks show at 9:45 p.m. The event is free.
Other family-friendly activities include face-painting and games, according to the city’s website.
Food and beverage vendors will be on site during the music performance.
According to Las Cruces officials, ample parking will be available at designated areas on the NMSU campus. Follow event signage and staff directions for parking instructions.
Red River
Red River Fourth of July Parade and Celebration
Red River is hosting a citywide celebration that starts with a morning parade. Start the morning near the Red River Stables at 10 a.m., where parade goers will stroll down Main Street toward Brandenburg Park, where the remainder of the Fourth of July activities will be.
After the parade, Brandenburg Park will be filled with activities, games, music and food.
ENMU Brass Quintet will perform at 1 p.m. Following the performance, awards will be given out to parade participants.
Taos
Taos Hometown 4th of July Celebration with Fruition
Celebrate Fourth of July in Taos with a free concert at Kit Carson Park starting at 5 p.m.
The concert opens with folk band Fruition. Other musical performers include Last to Know, Chris Arellano Band, PH8 and the Bees & Locusts.
Vendors will be on site to serve food and beverages, but coolers are welcome at the park. No outside alcohol will be permitted. Tickets are available on the Lensic 360 website.
