Albuquerque Fire Station's Exciting New Logos
Firefighters across Albuquerque are revisiting the old tradition of station logos.
Within the past few years at Albuquerque Fire Rescue, the tradition of fire stations having unique logos has begun to make a comeback. First responders within AFR have begun to redesign their logos. All approved logos are then displayed on the firetrucks.
Starting in 1991, fire stations in the city began to design their own logos, such as the Dragon Slayers at Station No. 4.
“It’s always kind of been part of the fire service history to have an identity to some of these fire stations, and that’s what ties the crews to the station and also, in some of these cases, what establishes that sense of service,” said Lt. Jason Fejer, the public information officer for AFR.
As of 1999, all approved station logos are displayed on the station’s fire engines.
Some of the current logos include the cobra at Station No. 11, the kraken at Station No. 8, the bulldog at Station No. 5 and a dragon at Station No. 4, among others. These logos are designed by the firefighters working at each station.
“The big reason we chose the cobra is we wanted to stay in line with the snake theme. For a really long time the Eleven’s logo has been snake eyes because the one and the one when you roll it on the dice is the snake eyes,” said firefighter Camden Chiarelli, the graphic designer for Station No. 11’s logo.
“We thought having something like that on the truck would give us a little bit of station pride. It’s something we can all look at and be really happy with,” said Chiarelli.
Currently, 14 out of the 22 stations have adopted station logos, with two more going through the approval process.
