Medic No. 9 is retired from Station No. 9
Medic 9 was retired from Albuquerque Fire Rescue on Nov. 2.
Medic 9 was a medical response vehicle operating in the Mid-Heights area of Albuquerque and was housed at Station No. 9. The goal of introducing another vehicle to this area was to lower the volume of calls for the primary response vehicles by responding to low-level Emergency Medical Service (EMS) calls.
Medic 9 went into service on July 13 and ran until Nov. 2. During this time frame, Medic 9 responded to 781 calls. The majority of these were in Station No. 13’s district, where 304 calls were responded to. Some 251 calls were responded to in Station No. 9’s district. The remainder of the calls were in other areas of the city, including the districts of Stations No. 5, No. 8, No. 12, and No. 19.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue received $292,000 in funding from the state to pay for the truck, as well as the two-person team operating the truck. They continued to run the truck until the funding ran out in early November.
During its run time extending over three months, Albuquerque Fire Rescue says Medic 9 achieved its goal of reducing call volume and handling lower-level calls in Station No. 9 and Station No. 13’s Districts.
