While there are many things to look forward to when the New Mexico State Fair is in town, many look to the parade as the first event for fair fun. Tens of thousands of people gathered along Central Ave. early morning on Saturday, Sept. 7, eager to see 110 colorful floats drive down the streets of Albuquerque.

A panel of judges evaluate floats and their designs. First, second and third place were awarded in all classes based on originality, use of color, use of music, use of theme and overall appearance. Here are the winners of each float category.

    1. Adult Riding Individuals/Groups = 1st Place – First Impression Rodeo Club, 2nd Place – Charros Del Valle, 3rd Place – Valencia Country Sheriff’s Posse
    2. Youth Riding Individuals/Groups – N/A

    1. High School Marching Band = 1st Place – Robertson High School Red Wave Pride Marching Band
    2. Other School Marching Band = 1st Place – UNM Band
  1. Drill Teams = 1st Place – Dancing Divas, 2nd Place – Hot Live and Otherwise Dance Team
  1. Cheerleaders = 1st Pace – Albuquerque School of Excellence
  2. JROTC = 1st Place – Albuquerque High School, 2nd Place – Belen High School Senior Naval Science
  3. Non-School Marching Groups = 1st Place - New Mexico 4-H
