Small-Business Winners Named

    New Mexico Small Business Week award winners will be honored at a luncheon event beginning at 11:30 a.m. May 1 at the Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town at 800 Rio Grande NW in Albuquerque.

    New Mexico winners are:
   
  • Business Person of the Year— Sergio O. Bermudez of El Mezquite Mexican Market in Albuquerque.
       
  • Family Owned Small Business of the Year— Luis Gonzalez, president, and Jorge Fernando Gonzalez, vice president, of Sequoia Landscaping Inc. in Albuquerque.
       
  • Exporters of the Year— Carlos Perea, CEO, and Ioana Engstrom, director of international sales, of MIOX Corp. in Albuquerque.
       
  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year— Jack T. Vigil, president & CTO, of Harmonix Technologies Inc. in Albuquerque.
       
  • Home-Based Business Champion of the Year— Debbie Maestas-Traynor of Maestas Consulting in Albuquerque.
       
  • Financial Services Champion of the Year— Lt. Gov. Diane O. Denish. She was also selected as a regional winner.
       
  • Minority Small Business Champion of the Year— Joan F. Fulkerson director of Small Business Programs at Kirtland Air Force Base & Air Force Research Laboratory.
       
  • Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year— Merritt Hamilton Allen, president and executive director, of VOX Optima LLC in Albuquerque.
       
  • Women In Business Champion of the Year— Robin Dozier Otten, president and CEO, of RDO Strategic Consultants in Albuquerque.
       
  • Small Business Journalist of the Year— Kevin Robinson-Avila, of the New Mexico Business Weekly.
       
  • New Mexico SBA Loan Volume Leader— First Community Bank.
       
  • New Mexico SBA Loan Dollar Leader— Wells Fargo Bank.
       
  • New Mexico SBA Rural Lending Leader— Bank of the Southwest.
