The U.S. Department of Energy is giving New Mexico State University's Arrowhead Center $1 million for a clean energy accelerator.

The DOE's Office of Technology Transitions announced the award early this month. NMSU is one of five winners that will receive $1 million as part of a three-year agreement.

“Arrowhead Center is committed to driving transformative innovation in New Mexico,” Dana Catron, interim director and CEO of Arrowhead Center, said in a statement. “This funding enables us to empower entrepreneurs and startups at the forefront of advanced energy and water technologies. By building a robust pipeline of innovation, we’re not only tackling some of the most pressing challenges of our time but also creating opportunities that strengthen our state’s economy and position New Mexico as a leader in energy innovation.”

In April, the Arrowhead Center hosted an event and was named one of 23 incubators that received $150,000 in federal funding to focus on advancing clean energy and water technologies. With the latest funding, the Arrowhead Center will increase offerings to support energy and water technology startups.

News of the latest award caught the attention of U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Lujàn, who said the center drives entrepreneurship and innovation to support clean energy advancements.

“This $1 million investment will boost Arrowhead’s work and support cutting-edge innovations to address issues like critical energy-water challenges," he said in a statement. "I’m proud to welcome this funding and will continue to fight for resources to support innovation and promote job creation in our state.”
