New Mexico gets funding for tech hub
The Biden administration on Tuesday announced that New Mexico is one of 12 tech hubs chosen to share half a billion dollars in grant funding.
Elevate Quantum Tech Hub will be in Colorado and New Mexico and will focus on quantum information technology.
The 12 hubs identified Tuesday will receive a total of $504 million in grant funding to scale up the production of critical technology, create jobs in innovative industries and strengthen U.S. economic competitiveness and national security, according to the U.S. Economic Development Association.
Elevate Quantum will aim to solidify the region’s global leadership in quantum information technology. The goal is to make progress in areas such as artificial intelligence.
“These Tech Hubs will give regions across our nation the resources and opportunities necessary to lead in the economy of tomorrow while creating good-paying jobs for American workers,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement.
The New Mexico-Colorado project is expected to receive $41 million.
“Through the Tech Hubs program, we are maintaining our competitive edge by advancing America’s leadership in commercializing critical emerging tech sectors. And we’re leveraging the diverse talent and resources that currently exist across the country to achieve this goal,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
