Albuquerque Journal names new business editor
The Albuquerque Journal has announced long-time Journal reporter Ryan Boetel will assume the role of business editor on Oct. 1.
Boetel has worked at the Journal for nearly a decade covering crime, higher education, Kirtland Air Force base and, most recently, the congressional delegation.
“We conducted a nationwide search for more than a month to find a forward-thinking business editor who would be committed to forging deep bonds within the local business community,” Journal Executive Editor and Senior VP Patrick Ethridge said in a statement. “… at the end of the search, we found the ideal candidate right here in our own newsroom.
“Boetel is intelligent, energetic and most importantly — he truly cares about New Mexico and the issues that are important to businesses here.”
Boetel, originally from Omaha, Nebraska, graduated with his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2010.
After graduating, he came to New Mexico to work at the Farmington Daily Times, where he spent four years covering crime and government.
“It’s an exciting time at the Journal with lots of changes and developments coming down the pike,” Boetel said. “I look forward to being part of that evolution while working with the great reporters on the Business desk.”
In his new role, Boetel will manage a team of three business reporters and oversee the weekly publication Business Outlook.
