New Mexico Black Leadership Council is launching a networking project Tuesday for businesses in Albuquerque’s International District.

The council at 6 p.m. Tuesday is starting an International District Engagement and Support (IDEAS) Network at an event in the council’s parking lot at 1314 Madiera SE. The NMBLC will create an online business directory and hold periodic meetings, events and initiatives aimed at mobilizing the district’s business community.

The event will coincide with National Night Out on Tuesday.

The council will have speakers, including several people who own businesses in the International District, at the launch of the networking project. The goal of the IDEAS Network is to link and leverage resources, showcase local business, mobilize International District budiness leaders and provide other types of support. Membership is free.

“We believe that despite the challenges we face, the businesses in the International District are strong and worthy of support. The IDEAS Network will help to ensure that our businesses not only survive but thrive,” Marcus Porter, the policy director at NMBLC, said in a statement.
