The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency launched a new grant program that will help business owners in five parts of the city make improvements.

Businesses will have to match the grants, which can be for up to $95,000 per fiscal year, to improve the aesthetics and functionality of businesses. It’s called the Renovate & Reinvest program.

The grant awards will be based on the size of the business.

The pilot program will be available to businesses in the Barelas, Downtown, East Downtown, Menaul and University Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas.

“We’re helping local business owners improve their curb appeal and be part of the vision for a better, stronger Albuquerque,” Mayor Tim Keller said in a news release. “This funding will help businesses make a real difference in the look and feel of our neighborhoods, and revitalize key areas of our city.”

Some of the improvement projects include exterior painting, signage, lighting, security systems, HVAC installations and improving accessibility or energy conservation.

“This is a powerful opportunity for property owners who want to reinvest in their buildings and contribute to the city’s broader redevelopment goals,” said MRA Interim Director Terry Brunner. “Renovate & Reinvest empowers property owners to take part in Albuquerque’s transformation, creating lasting improvements that support our community, enhance safety, and attract more people to our thriving business districts.”
