Election will lead to business news for years
Election Day has come and gone. And we're left with a slew of stories to write.
President Donald Trump is heading back to the Oval Office. And his decisions will certainly impact New Mexico.
Here are some of the stories that we'll be watching in the future:
Oil and gas
New Mexico is recent years has produced the second-most amount of oil. Trump says that he wants to strengthen the country's energy independence. How will the state budget be affected by those efforts?
Renewable energy.
Several companies have pledged or are building large-scale renewable energy products. Two companies have announced plans to build large scale solar manufacturing planes in Albuquerque, though they will receive a significant amount of public financing. What is the fate of those projects?
Immigration
Trump campaigned on securing the boarder and deporting undocumented people. If enacted, how will large deportation efforts affect the state's workforce?
Trade
Mexico is a major trade partner with the U.S., and New Mexico has a bustling port of entry in Santa Teresa, which would be affected by locking down the border. Trump has also said he would impose and increase tariffs, which will affect trade.
Technology
New Mexico's Democratic congressional delegation welcomed the passage of the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act, legislation that aimed to lower costs, boost domestic semiconductor manufacturing and strengthens domestic supply chains. The state was expected to be among those that received money from the law. What will a Trump presidency mean for those plans?
We'll have a new president in a couple months. Those are just some of the stories that we'll unpack in future Outlook editions.
