Encompass Health names new CEO for Albuquerque rehab hospital
Encompass Health, the country’s largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, has named a new CEO for its Albuquerque location.
Michelle Martinez, who previously served as the hospital’s controller overseeing finance, is now the CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Albuquerque, the company announced Thursday.
Martinez joined Encompass Health as a controller in 2017, supervising budgets, expenses, internal controls and auditing, then later became the area controller for multiple Encompass Health hospitals, according to a news release.
“It is an honor now to step into the CEO role,” Martinez said in a statement. “The rehabilitative services we provide our community are vital. I look forward to advancing the quality care this hospital is known for.”
Martinez previously served as director of finance for the University of New Mexico Hospital and as an auditor for the U.S. Department of Defense, according to a LinkedIn page. Her finance background includes a certified public accountant license and an accounting degree from the University of New Mexico.
“Michelle goes above and beyond to maintain strong patient outcomes and achieve operational success,” said Kim Steward, president of Encompass Health’s West region, in a statement. “She has demonstrated abilities in effectively leading teams and collaborating across stakeholder groups to meet goals. She will have a great impact on our hospital team and patients.”
Martinez replaces LaDessa Forrest, who took over as CEO of Encompass Health Albuquerque in November 2022. Forrest is now the CEO at Encompass Health Valley of the Sun Rehabilitation Hospital in Glendale, Arizona, according to Encompass spokesperson Lauren Matson.
Encompass Health Albuquerque, at 7000 Jefferson NE, has 87 beds for patients recovering from physical or neurological illness or trauma. The hospital opened in 1988.
Encompass owns 171 hospitals in 39 states and Puerto Rico. Last year’s annual report shows the company earned $597 million in 2024.
