A recently completed $15 million renovation has refreshed the guest experience at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa.

Officials with the luxury resort, situated just north of Albuquerque on the Santa Ana Pueblo, started conversations about renovating 327 of the resort’s 350 rooms in 2023. After months of planning, the work began in January and finished in mid-May.

The renovation upgraded some of the 500-acre resort’s corridors with new carpeting and textured wall coverings, but the rooms received the majority of the work, according to a news release.

Designed by Los Angeles-based architect Houston Tyner and Massachusetts-based Parker-Torres, the upgraded rooms blend “cultural elements and Pueblo-style design” with modern offerings, the news release said.

The design’s reference to locally woven fabrics, pueblo clay pottery and two Santa Ana Pueblo staples — red chile peppers and blue corn — “really helps bring the guest rooms to life,” said Chrisie Smith, the resort’s director of sales, marketing and events.

The guest bathrooms also received a refresh with new marble countertops, backlit mirrors, larger wardrobes and shoe closets, and sliding barn doors.

Smith said Santa Ana Hospitality Corp., a Santa Ana Pueblo-based hospitality company and the resort’s owner, covered the cost of the multimillion-dollar project.

Smith said the project adds to other recent upgrades, including a renovation of the resort’s Rio Grande Lounge, path lighting installed throughout the resort and resurfacing of the building’s exterior.

In celebration of the renovation, the resort is offering New Mexico residents a new deal of up to 20% off room rates for stays between Sundays and Thursdays.

Claudia Wattenberg, the resort’s general manager, said in a statement that the offering will make it “easier for locals to indulge in a luxurious getaway close to home.”

Locals can also access 20% off the resort’s Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon Monday through Thursday, and the seasonally-offered Corn Maiden restaurant — reopening on Sunday — on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Guests have already started enjoying the resort’s new rooms, Smith said, adding the response to the renovations has been “extremely positive.”

“We’d love everybody to come visit us,” Smith said.
