A new dispensary has opened in New Mexico’s hottest cannabis market, and the company operating the shop said it plans to open more in the future.

Mango Cannabis opened late last month in Sunland Park — a town bordering El Paso that sold more than $53.4 million in recreational marijuana last year.

Mango Cannabis’ 9,000-square-foot shop, which it says is the largest in the state, is the latest in a growing list of shops that have joined the town of roughly 18,000 people in the years since recreational sales started in April 2022.

Dispensaries in Sunland Park have been top performers in New Mexico’s legalized market.

Last month, for instance, Dark Matter’s Sunland Park store sold more than $1.4 million in cannabis, leading the state in dispensary sales, according to The Data Heard, which tracks data on New Mexico’s cannabis industry. Field of Dreams last month sold more than $1.1 million. And Cookies, which opened its second New Mexico store in Sunland Park in August, recorded nearly $774,000 in recreational sales in December.

Mango Cannabis, which officially opened Dec. 20, recorded $91,363 in just over a week of sales.

The Sunland Park shop can process 2,000 to 3,000 orders a day “with access to more than 50 knowledgeable employees and budtenders,” according to a news release.

“Mango has wanted to serve the Sunland community for a long time,” said Mike Khemmoro, the company’s co-founder and chief operating officer. “Sunland Park cannabis consumers are savvy and know what they want from their retailers.”

Mango Cannabis is based in Oklahoma — which has a legalized medical marijuana market — where it has shops in Tulsa, Edmond, Oklahoma City, Norman, Enid and Lawton, according to its website. It also has a shop in Lansing, Michigan, and another in Rochester, New York.

Mango Cannabis will open an Albuquerque dispensary “in the next several months,” company officials said.
