Stackers Burger Co.,
505 Central NW –FOOD
The new Stackers Burger Co. held a grand opening celebration Aug. 7 in the 505 Food Hall. The burger brand is the brainchild of Tikka Spice owner, Basit Gauba, a James Beard Award semi-finalist and Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown winner. The burger concept already had a food truck. The menu features the Duke City Smash Burger with Hatch green chile, sautéed onions and a brioche bun.
Garduño’s, 6000 Pan American Freeway NE – FOOD
Garduño’s opened its third Albuquerque location in the Nativo Lodge on Aug. 3. The Albuquerque-based chain has been serving New Mexican and Mexican cuisine since 1981 and already has locations in Hotel Albuquerque and the Cottonwood Mall. The new location will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
Flock of Moons, 111 Harvard SE – FOOD
A new brewery opened in the Bricklight District in early July. Flock of Moons is in the spot where Winnings Coffee used to operate. The space has been transformed with a new back patio. The local brewery has three of its own beers on tap, with guest taps from fellow New Mexico breweries.
Vintage Vault, 3503 Central NE Suite E – RETAIL
A new Nob Hill vintage clothing and goods store opened in late July. Vintage Vault offers furniture, clothing, and home goods that are mid-century, retro and vintage.
Goodwill, 6001 Lomas NE – RETAIL
Goodwill is bringing new life to the old Hastings location on Lomas, which closed in 2018, with a brand-new thrift shop. Goodwill Industries of New Mexico held a grand opening for the new store Aug. 3. The 20,0000 square foot facility will include a retail store, donation center, and resource center offering job placement assistance, homeless veteran housing support, and employment and life-skills training. The location will employ 24 workers.
Artistic Vision, 10700 Corrales Road, Suite D – RETAIL
A new glasses shop opened in Corrales in February. The store focuses on frames that are fun, whimsical and artistic in nature. The opticians try to offer education on glasses fit along with a fun shopping experience.
Compass Eyewear, 6934 Fourth NW – RETAIL
Mountain biking enthusiast and Z-Coil Footwear President Andres Gallegos launched a primarily online business in July offering high-quality sunglasses made specifically for outdoor adventures. Although the business is direct to consumer, it operates out of the Z-Coil showroom and warehouse, and might eventually have a small sunglasses showroom in the same space, where customers can try on their frames.
Bad Company Barbers, 4505 Central NW – BARBER
Locally-owned Bad Company Barbers opened July 16 on Central in a location previously occupied by Dee’s Hair Design. The shop has five barbers and accepts walk-ins and online appointments. The building has an open concept to encourage old-school barbershop community, in a hip new space with a family friendly environment. Owners José Lopez and Miguel Ordonez met working as barbers and jumped at the opportunity to open their own shop. Their previous location, Studio 21, was nearby, but much smaller.
CLOSINGS
Wells Fargo, 4341 Corrales Road – BANKING
The Corrales Wells Fargo branch location closed Aug. 16. Wells Fargo closed a Santa Fe branch location earlier this year, and will close another two New Mexico locations in October. The Bosque Farms and Santa Teresa Wells Fargo branch locations are scheduled to close Oct. 4.
Applebee’s, 6220 San Mateo NE – FOOD
The Applebee’s on San Mateo permanently closed, but the other six Albuquerque Applebee’s are under new ownership and undergoing renovations.
