Popejoy Hall renovates lobby for 58th anniversary
Guests check out the newly renovated lobby area at Popejoy Hall during an informal unveiling on Oct. 1.
Popejoy Hall has a newly renovated lobby area that will provide expanded conveniences for patrons.
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse In Concert" attendees were able to experience the new features of the revamped space on Sunday, Oct. 6.
"We did a pretty large renovation on our lobby and a lot of it was enhanced lighting, we have enhanced signage to make sure that people can navigate easier, and we did add a new restroom on the second floor, so there is more accessibility," said Devon Griste, public relations specialist at Popejoy Hall.
Construction began in early June and ended in early September, according to a Popejoy news release. The lobby renovations were made possible in part to funding from the New Mexico Legislature.
“It’s an exciting day for Popejoy Hall, the University of New Mexico, and our patrons," Fabianna Borghese Tabeling, Popejoy Hall director, said in a statement. "This space has become an Albuquerque landmark and these updates feel timeless and historical all at once."
Popejoy Hall is celebrating 58 years of operation this year.
"Since 1966, this business and building have been growing and changing," Borghese Tabeling said. "It is a thrilling evolution to be a part of."
The performing arts center is located on the UNM campus, 203 Cornell Dr. NE, and seats more than 1,500 patrons.
Popejoy is one of the largest multi-purpose venues in the state, according to the news release. It hosts touring Broadway shows, symphony concerts, musical soloists and artists of international caliber, world-renowned ballet, modern dance companies, and noted speakers from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
