‘Something for everyone’: ART SCAPE GALLERY opens its doors in Corrales, offering local works for every taste
The village of Corrales has a new art space to explore, and it has something for everyone.
ART SCAPE GALLERY, a new gallery in Building 1 of the Del Rio Plaza at 4436 Corrales, officially opened its doors on Thursday. The gallery carries original artwork — paintings, jewelry, glasswork — as well as functional art, including wine glasses and serving trays.
“We’re real happy with this space and looking forward to this new adventure,” said co-owner and artist Lauren Deyo. “We have something for everyone.”
Deyo and Wendy FitzPatrick moved into the space on July 1 and swiftly began implementing their vision for the 600-square-foot, light-filled gallery.
The two met through their mutual connection to Corrales. Deyo’s involvement with the Corrales Society of Artists and its annual studio tour brought Deyo’s art to Artsy Accents, a studio space that FitzPatrick owned in Corrales for three years. That store has since closed, as FitzPatrick and Deyo decided to join forces to launch the new venture.
“We both have a love for this village and it has a good vibe. We’re just thrilled to death to be here,” Deyo said.
The pair’s vision for the gallery is inclusion and to have something for everyone. The gallery’s original artwork ranges anywhere from $50 to $3,000. The gallery also carries a range of home accents and gifts that Deyo said will appeal to children and adults.
Deyo said the two also aim to feature new products every month. The products are created by Deyo and FitzPatrick, as well as local artists. The gallery is currently exhibiting glass art from a Placitas artist named Karen Shatar, and Deyo said they plan to feature more local artists in the future.
Deyo said she hopes the gallery’s visitors will resonate with the art and feel inspired by it.
The gallery, situated near the Sandia Bar and the Indigo House, will also take part in the “First Sunday in the Village” — a time when Corrales’ businesses and galleries come alive with entertainment and markets on the first Sunday of every month.
“We have a beautiful front courtyard that is a shady, ideal spot to host guest artists for First Sunday, so we hope to do that. We’ll just see as we go along,” Deyo said. She added that future events such as artist talks and workshops could be a possibility.
The owners will celebrate the start of the joint venture with a ribbon-cutting event at noon on Aug. 5.
“We’re both very excited,” Deyo said. “We’re very proud of how the gallery looks and we just welcome everybody to come by and take a look.”
The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and by appointment otherwise.
