Albuquerque tourists have a new hotel option when choosing where to stay.

The Element by Westin hotel opened Aug. 8. Built by Total Management Systems, the 86,335-square-foot, 126-room, seven-story hotel on Prospect avenue and Louisiana boulevard is the latest addition to the Winrock.

Total Management Systems include also built the Home2 Suites Downtown University, the TownePlace Suites near the Albuquerque International Sunport and the SpringHill Suites near the Journal Center.

The Element hotel is the first of its brand in the New Mexico market.

Total Management Systems (TMS) originally planned to open the Element in September 2023, but an increase in supply costs and a delay in materials resulted in the company pushing back opening day.

The original budget for the hotel was estimated at $32 million. TMS didn't confirm what the final costs added up to.

Diana Roman, director of sales and operations, said the hotel made waves on its soft opening day, selling out a majority of its rooms. Some rooms have already been booked for the duration of the year.

"Guests who are fans of the Westin and Marriott hotels have an option here in Albuquerque now," Roman said.

The hotel features studio, standard and executive suites. Studio common area rooms have a separate hallway for guests where they can book up to four rooms that all connect to one large common area, complete with a fully stocked kitchen and resting area.

Extended stay bookings are available for guests for all the rooms with extended stay rates.

"We are a very clean, green brand so you'll notice a lot of greenery and eco-friendly options throughout the hotel," Roman said. "We cater to all guests, but a lot of our amenities are centered around healthy living and people with an active lifestyles."

For example, the hotel's complimentary breakfast bar serving healthy options, and it has a saline pool instead of a chlorine pool and electric vehicle charging stations.

Element has its rooftop bar, Volaré. The bar will sell hand-crafted cocktails and local beer. It also has a variety of outdoor games.

Though the official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony has not been set, the hotel is fully operational and has already began hosting events. A 1,050-square-foot meeting room and the rooftop bar will be available to rent for special events.

"We're still figuring out some operational things but we're going to get better and better," Roman said. "I'm very proud of how the hotel came together and I can't wait for guests to come and experience Element."
