Taos is known for its memorable people and landscapes, but its unique homes are stepping into the spotlight.

Not one, but two Taos-area homes will make an appearance on the new season of the HGTV series “Zillow Gone Wild,” premiering on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The series is entering its second season exploring the most distinctive homes in America listed on Zillow.

The series, hosted by American actor and comedian Jack McBrayer, was inspired by a popular Instagram account of the same name.

One of the two homes, a sustainable property known as an Earthship, will be included in Friday’s premiere, a spokesperson for Zillow told the Journal. The second, dubbed the Treehouse home, is currently scheduled to appear in episode three on Aug. 1, though the schedule is subject to change.

The Earthship — a 2,000-square-foot home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms at 19 Gorge View Road — is an off-the-grid home featuring passive solar heating, an indoor greenhouse, a full roof water catchment system, a garden area and skylight windows. Owner LaNeah Ashford told Zillow she doesn’t pay anything for electricity, water or utilities. The home was listed in January for $685,000.

The 3,210-square-foot Treehouse home at 627 Boyer Lane was listed for $1.26 million in 2023, but the price dropped to $1.1 million last year. The three-acre property features a main house, four rental casitas, a workshop, vegetable gardens, a chicken coop and ladders galore. Owners Diane and Dan Greenleaf described the property to Zillow as “a piece of art.”

The uniqueness of the two homes landed them a feature article on Zillow’s website and a spot on Zillow Showcase, a group of Zillow listings that can be explored virtually using immersive technology.
