U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union is offering a new perk to members and their furry friends.

The New Mexico credit union announced this week it will begin offering a pet insurance benefit to members with a certain checking account, intended to financially support members when their pets become hurt or ill.

The credit union said it will also make a donation to the Albuquerque-based nonprofit Animal Humane New Mexico with every checking account opened with the pet perk through June 30.

“Being the first credit union in New Mexico to offer this benefit, it is part of our ‘people mean more’ philosophy by improving the quality of life in the communities we serve,” Marsha Majors, U.S. Eagle president and CEO, said in a statement.

The benefit offers a range of rates on pet insurance within the credit union’s “Perks Plus Checking” account option, which members can select when opening a checking account. Current members who don’t have the “Perks Plus” option can also switch to that account option.

The benefit also includes identification tags linked to Pet Cloud, where members can store information about their pets, around-the-clock virtual pet care, discounts on pet medication and warranties for pet damage to home items.

“We are excited to partner with U.S. Eagle ... and help inform New Mexicans about the advantages of investing in insurance for their pets,” Animal Humane Executive Director Val Wilson said in a statement.
