The city of Albuquerque's Animal Welfare Department is offering 150 free neuter surgeries for dogs and cats.

Albuquerque residents can sign their four-legged friends up for free surgery by making a reservation online beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

"Neutering your pets will help reduce the number of shelter pets, improve your pet's health, reduce unruly behavior and save on the cost of pet care," a news release said.

Eligible pets must weigh between 2 and 90 pounds.

Pet owners may make reservations for no more than two cats or dogs.

The release said the free surgeries are offered only to pets of Albuquerque residents, and proof of residency is required.

Appointments can be made online at cabq.gov/pets.
