All six mayoral candidates to participate in Journal roundtable
With Election Day just two weeks away, all six of the candidates vying to be Albuquerque’s next mayor will talk big issues Wednesday at a roundtable hosted by the Journal.
The discussion will be streamed live online at 2 p.m. on the Journal’s website, on KOAT-TV and on News Radio KKOB.
In the latest Journal poll, incumbent Tim Keller leads at 29%, followed by former Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White at 16%. Behind the frontrunners are outgoing city councilor Louie Sanchez and former U.S. Attorney for New Mexico Alex Uballez, both at 6%. Bringing up the rear, Mayling Armijo and Eddie Varela at 1 and 2%, respectively.
The greatest share of voters, however, are undecided at 37%.
Armijo and Varela were excluded from the KOAT-TV debate last week due to low polling numbers.
This event, however, will be an opportunity for all six candidates, regardless of how they performed in polling, to discuss their positions on key issues and share their vision for Albuquerque.
Journal Capitol Bureau Chief Dan Boyd, joined by KOAT anchor Darlene Melendez and KKOB News Director Zoltan Csanyi Salcedo, will ask questions about crime, homelessness and economic development, as well as touch on hot-button national issues such as immigration and tension between the federal and local governments.
Candidates will also be able to expand on their personal backgrounds and why they believe they’re best suited to lead New Mexico’s largest city.
Breaking from the traditional format, candidates will be able to ask one another a question. Each candidate will be given a randomly selected candidate to question on policies and platform.
Watch the livestream from 2-3:30 p.m. on the Journal’s website at www.abqjournal.com/mayor25/ or at KOAT.com or www.newsradiokkob.com/.
