In a first for the University of New Mexico, its athletic department partnered with the Inclusive Sports Foundation to host an Inclusive Sports Day for Albuquerque Public Schools special education students on Tuesday.

High school and middle school students from 18 campuses tried their hand at sports from football and golf to tennis with the help of UNM student-athletes inside the indoor football practice facility.

The goal is to ensure that special education students feel included and seen through sports.

Since its founding in 2018, the nonprofit Inclusive Sports Foundation has impacted the lives of more than 3,000 children, according to its website, isfathletes.com.

The students also celebrated a successful Inclusive Sports Day by holding an impromptu dance party at the end.
