ABBA-solute fun: Head to Greece with the New Mexico Gay Men's Chorus sing-along fundraiser
The New Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus is hosting its annual sing-along at the KiMo Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Set to the music of ABBA, the movie fundraiser allows audience members to dance, drink and gobble popcorn and candy. Attendees are invited to dress for the Greek isles, where the film is set.
A licensing agreement forbids the mention of the movie’s name, NMGMC publicity liaison Jerry Matthews said.
The event will support the 43rd season of the chorus.

Singers will see on-screen lyrics. The chorus is providing a range of activities, including a costume contest, gift basket raffle, VIP reception, movie concessions and refreshments from Tractor Brewing.
This marks the third time the chorus has staged a sing-along at the KiMo. Its pre-pandemic shows featured “Grease” and “The Sound of Music.”
“Last year, we did ‘Moulin Rouge,’ ” Matthews said.
“It’s a fun evening,” he added. “Tractor Brewing comes in and sets up the concessions and sells beer and cider. You’re allowed to take your beer and your popcorn into the movie.”
Albuquerque drag queen Vanessa Patricks will act as emcee.
The event typically draws about 300 revelers, Matthews said. General admission tickets are $25.
A 5:30 p.m. VIP reception (tickets are $75 and include admission to the movie) precedes the sing-along at the Sumner & Dene Gallery, a block from the KiMo Theatre at 517 Central Ave. NW.
Presented in part by The Range Café and D.H. Lescombes/St. Clair Winery, the special event includes premium seating for the movie, a gift bag and other exclusive items.
“Originally, I wanted to get ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ for Halloween,” Matthews said. “But the Lobo Theater is showing it.”
