U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Abiquiú Lake will host its annual midwinter eagle survey on Saturday, Jan. 6.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is calling all those with an eagle eye.
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 6, the Corps staff at Abiquiú Lake will host its annual midwinter eagle survey. The event is free and open to the public.
Those wishing to participate are asked to meet at the Abiquiú Lake Visitor Center at 9 a.m. for registration, followed by a 9:30 a.m. presentation about eagles and other potential bird sightings. The count will start at 10 a.m. and run until noon.
Volunteers are asked to dress warmly and consider current weather conditions. It’s also recommended to bring spotting scopes, binoculars and/or long-range cameras.
The goal of the survey is to help count eagles along standard, non-overlapping survey routes as part of a nationwide midwinter bald eagle survey.
Abiquiú Lake Visitor Center is at 4731 Highway 96 in Abiquiú.
