CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Michael Chavez of Ilfeld caught a 16-inch rainbow trout on the Pecos River using a Panther Martin spinner on Oct. 27.

Mark Winchester of Albuquerque caught a 19.5-inch rainbow trout at Fenton Lake using tuna fish and bread on Oct. 21.

On the San Juan River, Kent Joyce of Roswell caught a 22-inch rainbow trout using a size-22, grey Foam-wing emerger midge-pattern fly on Oct. 24. … Dr. David Marks and David Ingram of Tulsa, Oklahoma each caught 23-inch rainbow trout using a size-24 RS2 midge fly on Oct. 10.

Mark Sparks of Los Lunas caught a 4-pound largemouth bass at Elephant Butte Lake using a 4-inch, white grub on Oct. 23.

James Alison of Las Cruces caught an 18-inch rainbow trout at Grindstone Reservoir using salmon eggs on Oct. 22.

Fishing for trout at Charette Lakes was good using orange Rooster Tail spinners.

Streamflow on the Cimarron River near Cimarron on Monday morning was 29 cubic feet per second (cfs) and had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Clayton Lake was good using PowerBait. Fishing for catfish was fair using nightcrawler worms. The lake closed for the season on Nov. 1.

Fishing for bass at Conchas Lake was fair to good using plastic crawdad lures.

Fishing for trout at Costilla Creek was good using Hare’s Ear Nymph flies.

Cowles Ponds had no reports from anglers this week.

Coyote Creek had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Eagle Nest Lake was good using Garlic PowerBait and Chartruese PowerBait. Fishing for pike was fair to good using green-and- silver, size-6 Panther Martin spinners, swimbaits and large spoons. Fishing for smallmouth bass was good using black leech-pattern flies and bright-colored streamer flies near the Taos Junction Bridge.

Streamflow on the Rio Hondo near Valdez on Monday morning was 8 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Mora near Terrero on Monday morning was 6 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using bead-head nymph flies.

Streamflow on the Rio Pueblo near Peñasco on Monday morning was 9 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs in Embudo Creek.

Fishing for trout at Santa Cruz Reservoir was good using flies, Kastmaster lures and Pistol Pete spinner flies. The lake is open from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday-Sunday.

Please remember, from the river-crossing bridge on U.S. Highway 84 at Abiquiú upstream 7 miles to the base of Abiquiú Dam is special trout waters with a bag limit of only two trout.

Fishing for white bass on the Rio Grande was fair to good using corn near Algodones. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using nightcrawler worms and chicken liver near Albuquerque.

Streamflow on the San Juan River near Archuleta on Monday morning was 503 cfs. The Bureau of Reclamation has scheduled a decrease in the release from Navajo Dam from 450 cfs to 40 cfs for Oct. 31 at 8 a.m. Fishing for trout in the quality waters was good using size-24 RS2 midge flies and size-22, grey Foam-wing Emerger midge-pattern flies. Fishing for trout in the bait waters was fair to good using AKSS Streamer flies, PowerBait and nightcrawler worms.

Fishing for trout at the Seven Springs Kids’ Pond was good using white Caddis Flies.
