Environmental journalist Ben Goldfarb to discuss new book at two events

AUTHOR IN ALBUQUERQUE AND SANTA FE

Environmental journalist Ben Goldfarb discusses and signs his new book “Crossings: How Road Ecology is Shaping the Future of Our Planet” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW; and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Collected Works, 202 Galisteo, Santa Fe. Goldfarb traveled around the globe to view the dramatic growth of road networks and to witness the innovative solutions for wildlife by road ecologists. According to press material, the author interviewed conservationists building bridges for mountain lions, engineers deconstructing logging roads in national forests, animal rehabbers caring for Tasmania’s wallabies orphaned by car accidents, and community organizers trying to undo the maze of highways in American cities.

AT ALBUQUERQUE MUSEUM

From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, a group of poets will read from their work in celebration of the newly released “New Mexico Poetry Anthology 2023.” Poets reading include Rebecca Aronson, Veronica Gonzales, Leonard Madrid, Sirena Reyes, Mary Oishi, Damien Flores and state Sen. Bill O’Neill. On hand will be anthology editors Levi Romero and Michelle Otero. The event is free and open to the public. The museum is located at 2000 Mountain Road NW.

AT BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

Many contributors to the 2023 edition of the magazine ABQ inPrint will read from their writings at an event at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Books on the Bosque, 6261 Riverside Plaza Lane NW. Among the readers will be Tina Carlson, Sarah Kotchian, Barb Leviton, David Meischen, Barbara Rockman and Scott Wiggerman. Art accompanies the writings. The theme of the current issue is “Playing with What is Real.”

AT BOOKWORKS

Las Cruces author Kelley Cleary Coffeen chats about her new cookbook “The Big Book of Hatch Chile” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW. The book has 180 recipes focusing on the famous Hatch chile pepper.

AT TREASURE HOUSE BOOKS & GIFTS

Victoria Medina Baker signs copies of her new novel “Into the Canyon” from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Treasure House Books & Gifts, 2012 South Plaza St. NW, Old Town. The book is the first volume in a planned trilogy that follows the Kammer family. In the first book, attention is on Izrael Kammer, a high school senior, whose life is shaken when a girl moves to the community and betrays his trust. At the same time, the girl disrupts the piece of the mountain valley town. Baker says the fictional Kammer family recalls “the quaint, tender, and hardworking existence of farmers and ranchers everywhere.” The author lives in New Mexico.

THRILLER WRITERS EVENTS IN SANTA FE, ABQ

Six members of the Women’s Thriller Writers Association will read from and talk about their stories at noon Saturday, Nov. 4, at Beastly Books, 418 Montezuma Ave., Santa Fe; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Books on the Bosque, 6261 Riverside Plaza Lane NW. The stories are in the association’s inaugural anthology, “ThrillHers: Thrilling Tales in Isolated Locations.” The six readers are Sonja Dewing, Dita Dow, Saleema Ishq, Pat McGregor, Kara Smith and AK Weller.
