AT COLLECTED WORKS

Christian Allaire will autograph copies of his book “From the Rez to the Runway: Forging My Path in Fashion” at 3 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Collected Works, 202 Galisteo St., Santa Fe. Allaire is from the Nipissing First Nation Reserve in northern Ontario, Canada.

AT TONY HILLERMAN LIBRARY

Albuquerque author Suzanne Stauffer will talk about and sign copies of her debut historical mystery “Fried Chicken Castañeda” from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Tony Hillerman Library, 8205 Apache Ave. NE.

The novel is set in Las Vegas, New Mexico, in 1926. Prudence Bates has arrived in town by train from her home in Cleveland, where she was bored with her middle-class life. She wants to be a courier for Fred Harvey’s Southwestern Indian Tours. In Las Vegas, she befriends Harvey Girls Martha and Anne, and Castañeda Hotel desk clerk Clara.

Then Martha’s brother Tom is found murdered. Was his death connected to his bootlegging or his amorous relations with Liz Kearney, daughter of the richest man in the area and a reputed mob boss? Prudence is determined to solve Tom’s murder.

AT SOMOS SALON

Linda Michel-Cassidy will read from her recently published story collection “When We Were Hardcore” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, at SOMOS Salon, 108 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos.

The stories are based in the West and are primarily set in the rural high mountain desert near New Mexico’s border with Colorado.

Michel-Cassidy’s writing has appeared in many literary publications. She is also senior reviews editor and a hybrid/collaboration editor at Tupelo magazine. She divides her time between a home in Arroyo Seco and a houseboat in northern California.
