Cumulation of creativity: ARTSSPLASH 2024 showcases UNM's College of Fine Arts programs
Dip into ARTSSPLASH 2024 and celebrate creative programs happening at the University of New Mexico.
The event, put on by UNM’s College of Fine Arts, gives a preview of various programs within the college. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, on the east side of the Student Union Building on the Cornell Mall.
ARTSSPLASH will feature live performances from the Department of Theatre & Dance and the Department of Music from noon to 1 p.m., according to a UNM news release.

Past performances have included the Flamenco Program, from the Department of Theatre & Dance at UNM, which offers the only concentration in flamenco in the nation. The Department of Music has also showcased the Mariachi Ensemble, directed by Robert Lucero.
“We’re the only university that offers a focus on flamenco, the only flamenco concentration in the country,” said Harris Smith, dean of UNM’s College of Fine Arts. “(It is) pretty darn unique and I’ve fallen in love with it. The first time I saw it, I was just blown away.”
Other activities happening during ARTSSPLASH include departmental booths, prizes, food trucks and a chance to earn an ARTSSPLASH 2024 T-shirt.
“We have what’s called our ‘Passport Program,’” Smith said. “Whoever is participating in it has a passport. If they get five stamps from the different departments or centers, they get a free ARTSSPLASH T-shirt. So, (there is) a lot going on for folks to get involved.”
Explore UNM Fine Arts and receive an ARTSSPLASH 2024 T-shirt by getting your ARTSSPLASH Passport stamped at departmental booths. Each booth will have information, materials, and activities from CFA units such as the Department of Art, CFA advisement, Department of Film & Digital Arts, Department of Music and Department of Theatre & Dance, along with ARTSLab, the UNM Art Museum, Tamarind Institute, Arts Leadership & Business, Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, and student clubs, according to the news release.
“The main purpose of ARTSSPLASH is just to remind people that we have wonderfully talented faculty and students in the fine arts that are achieving a lot of very exceptional things in their career,” Smith said. “It’s an opportunity for us to do a little bit of bragging about how great our programs are and how well they serve the students and the state of New Mexico.”
This fall welcomes the inclusion of the Arts Leadership and Business Program to include the biannual Arts Career Fair, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the College of Fine Arts lobby.
The career fair offers networking opportunities, résumé and cover letter feedback, internship connections and possible job opportunities. Attendees are encouraged to bring their résumés and connect with local arts organizations, according to the news release.
Past arts organization attendees have included Meow Wolf, Opera Southwest, the UNM Art Museum, Poeh Museum and Cultural Center, Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, Keshet Dance & Center of the Arts, Fuse Makerspace and CNM Ingenuity.
Arts organizations interested in having a table at this event can contact with Katie Dukes Walker, ALBS director, via email at dukeskatie@unm.edu to reserve their space.
