Essential Overland Gear: Leveling blocks
Many paid campgrounds present flat pads or level areas to park your camper.
But that’s not the case in many places, especially in dispersed areas. And you don’t want to rule out camping in a beautiful area just because it isn’t perfectly level.
A level space is needed so you don’t wake up with all the blood in your head or feet after a long, night sleeping.
In fancy RVs and adventure vehicles, you can level using a button that adjusts the suspension, but there are cheaper and simpler opportunities to get on the level.
First are the ubiquitous orange Lynx Lego-like blocks that you see under many a wheel. Just follow the instructions and stack them up under whichever wheels are lower. These are less than $20 at Tractor Supply Company in town.
Campers can also use rocks or firewood found at the site, saving space and making more room inside for other essentials while traveling.
For a perfectionist, leveling apps are available for your smartphone, such as Bubble Level to help you make your bed and lie flat in it.
