Lawrence Salazar caught five rainbow trout at Eagle Rock Lake using a jig tipped with PowerBait during an ice-fishing trip Jan. 25.

John J. Cormier caught his limit of trout and “tons of tiny perch,” including this 3-incher, using wax worms, PowerBait and nightcrawlers at Lake Maloya on Jan. 24.

John (Hooker) Anya caught four trout at Tingley Beach using a fly on Jan. 24.

Northeast fishing report

Cabresto Lake had no reports from anglers this week.

Charette Lakes is closed for the season and reopens on March 1.

Streamflow on the Cimarron River near Cimarron on Wednesday morning was not measured due to ice.

Clayton Lake is closed for the season and reopen on March 1.

Conchas Lake had no reports from anglers this week.

Costilla Creek had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout was slow at Cowles Ponds.

Coyote Creek had no reports from anglers this week.

Eagle Nest Lake has reopened for ice fishing; however, all activities on the ice are at your own risk and it is recommended that all patrons do not enter the ice until daytime and are off the ice before sundown. Ice fishing for trout at Eagle Rock Lake was fair to good using jigs tipped with PowerBait.

Anglers have begun ice fishing at Hopewell Lake. Fishing for trout was good using worms and salmon eggs.

Ice fishing for trout and perch was good at Lake Maloya using wax worms, PowerBait and nightcrawlers. The ADA dock is open to anglers with priority given to mobility-impaired persons.

Los Pinos River had no reports from anglers this week.

Maxwell Lake 13 is closed for the season and reopen on March 1.

Morphy Lake is closed for the season and reopen on March 1.

Streamflow on the Pecos River near Pecos on Wednesday morning was 56.2 cubic feet per second (cfs). Fishing for trout was slow to fair using Streamer flies.

Streamflow on the Red River below the Red River Hatchery on Wednesday morning was 41.2 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using black streamer flies and San Juan worm-pattern flies.

Work to replace the water line to the hatchery pond at Red River Hatchery has been completed and stocking has resumed. There were no reports from anglers this week.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande below the Taos Junction Bridge on Wednesday morning was 393 cfs. Fishing for trout was slow near the John Dunn Bridge using silver-bladed, black-and-green Joe’s flies.

Streamflow on the Rio Hondo near Valdez on Wednesday morning was not measured due to ice.

Streamflow on the Rio Mora near Terrero on Wednesday morning was not measured due to ice.

Streamflow on the Rio Pueblo near Peñasco on Wednesday morning was not measured due to ice.

Santa Cruz Reservoir is closed and will reopen Feb. 15.

Shuree Ponds are closed until July 1.

Northwest fishing report

Streamflow on the Animas River below Aztec on Wednesday morning was 212 cfs.

Fishing for catfish at Albuquerque Area Drains was fair to good using chicken liver, PowerBait and salmon eggs.

Fishing for trout on the Brazos River was good using worms.

Canjilon Lakes had no reports from anglers this week.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has temporarily closed Cochiti Lake until further notice due to unsafe ice conditions. This includes the boat ramp, fishing access and day-use facilities on the Cochiti side of the lake. The gate to the road leading to the lake on the Cochiti side has been closed. Fishing for trout at Fenton Lake was good using Garlic Glitter PowerBait and Garlic PowerBait. Fenton Lake is now partially covered in dangerously thin ice. Going onto the ice for any reason is strictly prohibited. Visit the park’s webpage or call the park office at 575-829-3630 for updates.

Grants Riverwalk Pond had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for kokanee salmon at Heron Lake using snagging hooks was very slow.

At the Jemez Waters, streamflow near the Village of Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 19.5 cfs.

Laguna del Campo is closed for the season and reopen on May 1.

Lagunitas Lakes had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Lake Farmington was slow to fair using PowerBait.

Fishing for trout at Liam Knight Pond was fair using Orange PowerBait and green flies.

Fishing for trout at McGaffey Lake was very good using White Garlic PowerBait Eggs.

Fishing for pike at Navajo Lake was slow using crankbaits. The dam is closed to vehicle traffic until May 2025.

Streamflow on the Rio Chama below El Vado Lake on Wednesday morning was 103 cfs; streamflow below Abiquiú Lake on Wednesday morning was 85 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using zebra midges and Trout Magnets below Abiquiú Lake. Please remember, from the river-crossing bridge on U.S. Highway 84 at Abiquiú upstream 7 miles to the base of Abiquiú Dam is special trout waters with a bag limit of only two trout.

Rio Grande had no reports from anglers this week.

Riverside Park Pond (Aztec Pond #1) had no reports from anglers this week.

San Gregorio Lake had no reports from anglers this week.

Streamflow on the San Juan River near Archuleta on Wednesday morning was 367 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using artificial nymphs in the quality waters.

Fishing for trout at Seven Springs Kids’ Pond was very good using salmon eggs and Orange PowerBait. The pond was half covered in ice but still fishable. If you catch a native Rio Grande chub in the Kid’s Pond, please do not leave it on the bank; return it to the water where it can survive as part of our native ecosystem.

Tiger Park Reservoir had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Tingley Beach was fair to good using Peach PowerBait, salmon eggs and white egg-pattern flies.

Fishing for bass at Bill Evans Lake was slow to fair using Salmon Peach PowerBait and red-and-gold lures.

Fishing for walleye at Elephant Butte Lake was slow to fair using plastic baits. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using cut bait.

Fishing for trout at Escondida Lake was fair using salmon eggs and PowerBait.

Streamflow on the Gila River near Gila on Wednesday morning was 61.2 cfs. Fishing for catfish was fair using crawdads.

Streamflow at the Gila Waters near Gila Hot Springs on Wednesday morning was 49 cfs.

Fishing for trout at Lake Roberts was good using PowerBait and spinners.

Percha Dam had no reports from anglers this week.

Fishing for trout at Quemado Lake was good using PowerBait and Chartreuse PowerBait Eggs. Fishing for tiger muskie was fair to good using red-and-white Mepps spinners. The U.S. Forest Service has issued a warning about thin ice on the lake and advises against ice fishing or other on-ice activities.

Alto Lake is closed indefinitely due to extensive damage caused by the South Fork Fire.
