Winging it

You can Wing in the New Year from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Candelaria Nature Preserve. Join the Bird Alliance of Central New Mexico for a free bilingual tour that includes an introduction to birding basics. Hot drinks and snacks will be provided by the Friends of Candelaria Nature Preserve. Participants are asked to download the eBird app on your phone. The preserve is located at 2901 Candelaria Road NW.

Take the plunge

The 2025 Al’burrr’querque Polar Plunge hits the Sierra Vista Pool from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4. The price for the plunge starts at $40 and proceeds benefit the Shanta Strong Swim Fund and the ABQ BioPark Zoo polar bear and penguins. To register, visit cabq.gov/parksandrecreation. The pool is located at 5001 Montaño Road NW.

A hunk of burning fun

Shake, rattle and roll at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center’s 1950s Sock Hop Party. The party, celebrating Elvis Presley’s birthday, runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8. This all ages event is free with a Department of Senior Affairs membership. The center is located at 7521 Carmel Ave. NE.

Expecto the answers

Celebrate National Trivia Day at the San Pedro Library from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, for Harry Potter trivia. Participants will have a chance to win prizes at this all ages event. The library is located at 5600 Trumbull Ave. SE.

Moving along

Get your New Year’s resolutions moving from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, with the Wednesday Walkers at the Westgate Heights Public Library, 1300 Delgado Drive SW.

Bad Bad Hats is coming to Launchpad with Party Nails at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. Tickets for the 21+ event are $15, plus fees, at launchpadrocks.com. Launchpad is located at 618 Central Ave. SW.

Tony O and the Greatest Band Ever are bringing the music of Fleetwood Mac to Tumbleroot Brewery at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3. The event is 21+ but those under 21 are allowed with a parent or guardian.
