'Geared toward the culture': ABQ Taco Fest brings 2000s, hip-hop stars to Balloon Fiesta Park
With tacos, tequila and hip-hop stars like Lil Jon and T.I., Taco Fest is coming to Albuquerque to bring back the 2000s in style.
On Saturday, June 21, Balloon Fiesta Park will be transformed for a summer concert and throwback party.
True to the name, Taco Fest promises thousands of tacos served up by several vendors — along with nachos and more. A tequila sampling is available with the purchase of a tasting ticket. Craft margaritas and beer are also on hand for purchase and no additional ticket is required.
For those who want an elevated experience, VIP tickets are available for $159, plus fees, and include a separate viewing area to watch performances, an express entry and partial upfront stage access.
Along with performances on the stage by artists like the Ying Yang Twins and Ginuwine, eventgoers can watch lucha libre. The wrestlers will be in the ring the entire day in hopes of becoming the Taco Fest champion.
“We want to be able to create a full day of activities,” Bonnie Marquez, marketing director for Activated Events, said. “There’s music and food, but there’s also some extra entertainment out there, so everybody can have a good time.”
Eventgoers will have the opportunity to photograph and get up close to classic cars and low riders.
“This is really geared toward the culture,” Marquez said. “New Mexico is a market we’ve really embraced and has embraced us … and we saw there was a hole in the market for a show with this lineup and for something different.”
