Italian acoustic guitarist Luca Stricagnoli to perform with Meg Pfeiffer
Italian acoustic guitar player Luca Stricagnoli will be strumming his way through New Mexico making stops in Alamogordo on Thursday, Nov. 20, and Albuquerque on Friday, Nov. 21.
Stricagnoli said he enjoys playing arrangements of famous songs, pulling from rock, pop and classical, as well as his own original compositions.
“The arrangement of famous songs are a great bridge to connect the audience that wouldn’t otherwise be interested in acoustic guitar,” Stricagnoli said.
While the well-known songs help forge a connection with his audience, he said that the original compositions describe him and his life.
“One of my songs simply talks about going on stage when you’re not feeling well emotionally, and you need to put aside the negative emotion and focus on doing a great job on stage,” Stricagnoli said. “And another song talks about the death of my grandmother several years ago.”
Along with original songs he will play original instruments, including his handcrafted three-neck guitar.
“It’s the culmination of all of my experiments throughout the years, they ended up converging in this guitar,” Stricagnoli said, “which is a guitar that was made specifically for me and my way to play. And that’s why it’s my favorite, because it’s the most me.”
Stricagnoli will be joined by his wife, singer Meg Pfeiffer, at both shows. He said it has been an adjustment going from a one-man band to playing with her, but they have figured out how to perform together without taking away from one another.
“We took some of our songs that were also composed for, like an entire band,” Stricagnoli said, “and we managed to create some new arrangements specifically to make each of us sort of express what we do normally.”
Stricagnoli said he is most excited to perform Pfeiffer’s songs, including “Kill Me” and “My Man.”
“It’s really fun at the end of the solo concert, let’s say 90 minutes of acoustic solo guitar, to invite her on stage and to finally introduce some voice and some songwriting, and finish with an explosion.”
