There was a point in my life where I read everything I could about The Pony Express. I’m sure the short-lived TV show “The Young Riders” played a role. You can learn more about The Express this weekend at the Wheels Museum. Or pony up to one of these other events.

Honoring the fallen
The 2025 Memorial Day parade and ceremony is set for Monday, May 26. The parade takes off at 9 a.m. from USS Bullhead Memorial Park, 1606 San Pedro Drive SE, and makes its way to New Mexico Veterans Memorial Park, 1100 Louisiana Blvd. SE. Then, at 10:30 a.m. eventgoers can watch the memorial ceremony. Visit cabq.gov for more information.
On a high note
Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program is coming to Popejoy Hall for its 70th Alumni Reunion concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25. The event features over 100 AYSP alumni from eight decades. Tickets are $13.50 at unmtickets.evenue.net, with youth 18 and under free. Popejoy Hall is located on the University of New Mexico campus.
Hitting the trail
Nashville, Tennessee-based Western group Gone with the West are kicking off their 2025 Tumbleweed Tour, with a free performance at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29. The Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn is located at 1015 Rio Grande Blvd. NW. Visit gonewiththewestmusic.com for more information.
Science fact and fiction
The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is opening “Inspired by Fictional Events” on Saturday, May 24. The exhibit takes a look at science fiction that foreshadowed or inspired modern technologies. Admission to the museum is $12-$22 at nuclearmuseum.org, with children 5 and under free. The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is located at 601 Eubank Blvd. SE, and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Sounds of summer
Summertime in Old Town continues this weekend with a series of concerts. Severo y Grupo Fuego plays 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 23; Box Canyon Barbies take the stage 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 24; and Flambeaux starts off things Sunday, May 25, 1-3 p.m., with DJ Salsita performing 7-9 p.m. The concerts are free. The gazebo at Old Town is located at 200 North Plaza St. NW.
You otter know!
Wednesday, May 28, is World Otter Day. Learn more about these New Mexico residents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ABQ BioPark Aquarium. The event will feature discovery stations, themed crafts, and you can watch the aquarium’s North American river otters Chaos, Mayhem, and Dixon participate in a training session. Tickets are $1-$19.50 at artsandculture.cabq.gov, with children 2 and under free. The aquarium is located at 2601 Central Ave. NW.
