Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham to speak at 'A Word with Writers' event
AUTHOR AT MAIN PUBLIC LIBRARY
“A Word with Writers” is the title of special literary events held in Albuquerque once or twice a year since 2014. The next event is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, in the auditorium of the Main Public Library with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham.
He will read from and discuss his new novel “Day.” The novel is about family love with the narrative divided into three parts — Morning, which is set before the pandemic, Afternoon, which is at the height of the pandemic, and Evening, which is at some point after the pandemic.
Cunningham, a creative writing professor at Yale, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his 1998 novel “The Hours.”
General admission tickets for the event are $33 for one person, which includes a signed copy of “Day” and a donation to the Albuquerque Public Library Foundation; or $38 for two general admission tickets, one signed copy of “Day” and a donation to the foundation.
Tickets are available in advance at bkwrks.com, at Bookworks, 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW, or at the door.
Since 2014, the series has raised more than $20,000 to help support various library programs through the foundation, said Julia Grimes, a member of the library foundation board.
Grimes said it’s “pretty exciting and pretty impressive” that “A Word with Writers” still endures.
The foundation and Bookworks cosponsor the series. The main library is at 501 Copper Ave. NW.
