To borrow a line from TV history, “The plane! The plane!” It’s no fantasy, the blue skies of the West Side are going to filled with aircraft of all kinds this weekend. Afraid of flying? There are some other options firmly on the ground.

1Going global

Colombia’s Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto and Malawi’s Madalitso Band joining up and coming to New Mexico for two shows this weekend. At 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, you can catch them at The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing, 37 Fire Place in Santa Fe. Tickets for the Santa Fe show are $25 in advance, $30 day of, plus fees at holdmyticket.com. The groups head to Albuquerque for a 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, performance at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 Fourth St. SW. Tickets are $12, kids 12 and under free, at nhccnm.org.

2Just plane fun

Head out to Double Eagle II Airport for the Land of Enchantment Fly-In from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. Similar to a car show, aircraft fly in to be judged. The free event will feature aircraft of all types, along with live music, a dance performance and more. Double Eagle II Airport is located at 7401 Atrisco Vista Blvd. NW. 3Let the harvest begin

The Albuquerque Garden Center is hosting the Harvest Craft Fair and Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23. Shop for bedding plants, autumn and holiday items, and enjoy food, gourd and pumpkin painting and more. Admission is free. The garden center is located at 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE.

4‘The way of bamboo’

Celebrate Aki Matsuri: Japanese Fall Festival with the New Mexico Japanese American Citizens League from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24. Enjoy Japanese art, food, cultural exhibits and more at the event, held at Expo N.M., 300 San Pedro Dr. NE. Tickets are $10, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com.

5Here comes ‘T-R-O-U-B-L-E’

Legendary country star Travis Tritt will play at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the Isleta Resort & Casino, 11000 Broadway Blvd. SE. Tickets are $50-$60, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com.

6Ice is nice

The New Mexico Ice Wolves are back in action 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 23, as they take on the Odessa Jackalopes. Tickets to the games are $15-$27.50, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com. The Outpost Ice Arenas is located at 9530 Tramway Blvd. NE.

7Movie under the stars

As part of its centennial celebration, Aztec Ruins National Monument is hosting a free Movie in the Park event with a screening of “The Mayors of Shiprock.” The movie will start 7:30 pm on Saturday, Sept. 23, in the park’s picnic area, 725 Ruins Road, Aztec. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs, blankets and picnic items.
