Beyond ‘Borders’
Quintessence: A Community of Singers is opening its 2025-26 concert season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19 with “Borders and Bridges.” The program includes musical works featuring the themes of migration, immigration and the search for freedom. Asian excellence
The 2025 Chinese American Film Festival is celebrating cinema at the South Broadway Cultural Center on Saturday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Oct. 19. Featured films include “Closing Time” from Sherwin Lau, associate film professor at New Mexico State University; “Ten Times Better,” the story of dancer George Lee; and the live action remake of “Mulan.” The event will also feature panel discussions, karate demonstrations and dance performances. The dark arts & crafts
The ABQ Headbangers Market, a collision of darker-themed arts, crafts and live heavy music, is coming to Fusion from 3-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. You spin me round
The Albuquerque 78 Spinners are hosting a fundraiser event to support the Wheels Museum from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. A variety of collectibles will be for sale including 78 RPM records, record sleeves, books, posters, sheet music and more. The Wheels Museum is located at 1100 Second St. SW.
Cultural showcase
The Coronado Historic Site is hosting the 2025 Fiesta of the Cultures: The Many Cultures of New Mexico from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. The event will include performances by Jemez Pueblo Dancers, the Wilde Bunch LGBTQ+ Square Dancers, Trupthi’s Academy of (East Indian) Dance and Music and McTeggart Irish Dance. Admission is $10 for adults, and free for qualified individuals, at my.nmculture.org. Coronado Historic Site is located at 485 Kuaua Road in Bernalillo.
Taking ‘A Musical Journey’
Pianist Fred Sturm will take you on “A Musical Journey Through Latin American” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19. The concert features solo piano works from Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico and Brazil. Tickets are $5-$16.50 at unmtickets.com. Keller Hall is located on the University of New Mexico campus.
A community affair
“En Unidad Hay Poder: Dia De Los Muertos Festival” is coming to Manuel’s Food Market from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. The event includes a car show, dance and music performances, an artisan and farmers market, and more. The market is located at 601 Edith Blvd. NE.
