The 2025 Sandia Snowshoe Classic will feature 175 racers as they make their way from the Sandia Crest Scenic Highway.

Sandia Snowshoe Classic set for Jan. 18

The 21st Sandia Snowshoe Classic will be taking on Sandia Crest on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The event, from the Friends of the Sandia Mountains, covers 5K of terrain with an elevation gain of 454 feet. The starting gun will go off at 11 a.m. with racers dashing through the snow starting at the Sandia Crest Scenic Highway (New Mexico Highway 536).

Along with views from the crest at 10,700 feet, there will be food, drinks and festivities. Cibola Search and Rescue will be on hand to monitor the course.

There will be cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers, along with awards provided by REI and local restaurants for the top age group finishers. Participation will be capped at 175 racers, ages 13 and older, and registration is $45 at runsignup.com.

NM Fly Fishing Film Night to hold encore

The New Mexico Fly Fishing Film Night is returning for an encore presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

Featured short films include “Gila,” “Fly Fishing the Rio Grande with Nick Streit,” “Resilience-The Rise of Apache Trout,” “Reflect-A New Mexico Fishing Story,” “Tom: The Friend Fish Deserve,” “Ben Casarez Rod Builder, The Story of Flat Creek Rods,” “Il Pescatore Completo/The Complete Fisherman” and “Fly Fishing New Mexico with Norm Maktima.”

Tickets are $18 at guildcinema.com or at Los Pinos Fly Shop, 4360 Cutler Ave. NE.

Sidetrack Brewing Company will be in the lobby with the special edition lager “Stay Wild” on tap.
