Valles Caldera National Preserve hosting Winter Soundscapes Strenuous Ski Tour
The Valles Caldera National Preserve is hosting a special event, the Winter Soundscapes Strenuous Ski Tour, at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12.
Eventgoers will take a guided tour with a park ranger, listening to the sounds of the Valles Caldera in winter, learning about the connections between nature’s soundscapes and the ecosystem.
Guests must bring their own skiing equipment — rugged cross-country skis or light telemark and alpine touring setups are recommended with fish scale patterns or skins. Split boards are also fine. Participants are also encouraged to bring water and snacks, and to dress in appropriate winter clothing.
The tour will depart from the Volcano Discovery Center and will make a 4 to 5 mile loop on groomed trails, depending on snow conditions and guest wishes. The Valles Caldera National Preserve wants participants to know the route is strenuous and will require proper hydration, nutrition and physical conditioning.
Registration is not required and park entrance fees apply.
