5 places to watch the Balloon Fiesta outside of the Balloon Fiesta Park
Every October, hundreds of hot air balloons fill the New Mexico skies for Balloon Fiesta. Although there's nothing like experiencing the Balloon Fiesta up close and personal on the field, some people may want to enjoy the views from other places around Albuquerque. Here are five of the best places to watch the Balloon Fiesta outside of the Balloon Fiesta Park.
1) Steel Bender Brewyard
Each year, Steel Bender Brewyard hosts the Balloons and Brews event, an annual tradition where the brewery opens early in the morning to provide food and drink while watching the mass ascension. Located just ten minutes away from the Balloon Fiesta Park, the brewery is a great place to grab a bite and watch the balloons.
2) On the Rio Grande
If you want a unique balloon viewing experience without the hassle of going to the Balloon Fiesta Park, the Rio Grande might be the perfect place for you. Rent a paddle board or kayak and float through the river as you watch balloons float in the sky. The experience is unlike any other and has the best of New Mexico below and above you.
3) From the Bosque trails
For early risers, the Bosque trail is a creative way to view balloons. Take a hike, ride a bike or walk up the trail to enjoy a beautiful morning view. It's also a great way to get your steps in for the day!
4) Inside a car
The easiest way to watch balloons without the hassle of getting to the field is simply watching from your car. The best viewing locations are: west of Jefferson St., between Osuna Rd and Paseo Del Norte Blvd or off the Pan American Frontage Road (off I-25 N) or between Paseo Del Norte and Alameda Blvds.
5) At a park
Start your balloon viewing morning at North Domingo Baca park off Paseo Del Norte Blvd and Alameda Blvd, where you can see the mass ascension. The park is close to the Balloon Fiesta park and with a blanket, a cup of coffee and a breakfast burrito, you can enjoy a personal picnic while viewing the balloons.
Where NOT to watch Balloon Fiesta
It can be easy to get swept away by the gorgeous scenery as you drive, but it is incredibly dangerous to stop on the side of roads or on the shoulder of highways to watch the Balloon Fiesta. Be sure to properly park your vehicle in a safe location; pulling onto the shoulder of the highway is not permitted.
