The second season of “Drops of God” will air its eighth episode Wednesday, March 11, on Apple TV. The entire season is also available to stream on the platform.

Fleur Geffrier does research prior to auditioning.

For the role of Camille Léger in the series “Drops of God,” Geffrier watched all eight of the original episodes of the anime, feeling an immediate connection to her character.

“I did feel a link with Camille,” Geffrier says. “We are a bit alike. She’s not shy. She says what she thinks. She’s full of life and she’s a bit lost.”

The French-Japanese drama is set in the high-stakes world of gastronomy and fine wines.

Geffrier and Tomohisa Yamashita, who plays Issei Tomine, star in the series, which is adapted from the bestselling Japanese manga series of the same name, created and written by award-winning Tadashi Agi, with artwork by Shu Okimoto and published by Kodansha.

According to Apple TV, in Season 2, Camille and Issei, reeling from the discovery of their shared parentage, are thrust into their most perilous challenge yet: to uncover the origin of the world’s greatest wine, a mystery so profound that even their legendary father, Alexandre Léger, could not solve it.

The search for truth pushes them to the edge of the world, unearthing forgotten histories, hidden rivalries and buried secrets, and revealing the darkest corners of themselves. Camille and Issei must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice.

The last episode of Season 2 will stream on Apple TV on Wednesday, March 11. The entire series will then be available to stream on the platform.

Geffrier came to the audition familiar with wine because she grew up in France, where her father was a chef.

“Wine is an everyday part of my life,” she says. “I was 9 when I first tasted it in secret. I didn’t understand why grown-ups were drinking wine. I later started to learn much more about it.”

Geffrier worked with wine consultant Sébastien Pradal to become more familiar with the varieties and terminology, ensuring an authentic portrayal of a leading expert.

“Sébastien explained to us the wine history in France, how to taste properly when we go to restaurants, who is supposed to taste the wine,” she says. “I’m still an amateur because it takes so many hours of work to be a proper sommelier.”

When producer Klaus Zimmermann mentioned a possible continuation of the story in a second season, Geffrier was intrigued.

“I got the first script, then the second one, then a few weeks later, a third one. I’m really enjoying it.”

Geffrier describes this next chapter as a “family adventure” that delves further into these dynamics than the first.

“We go deeper into the family’s relationships, how families can be torn apart and then put back together, or not,” she says. The season explores themes of identity and self-definition. “The themes are quite similar but take a different approach. It’s still ‘Drops of God.’ We have the vibe of Season 1, but we expand on it this season.”

Geffrier says Camille and Issei are now “trying to be brother and sister” after discovering their relationship in the first season.

She says Camille is eager to be part of his life.

“There’s more tension,” she says. “We look at it like a thriller in some scenes. It’s a bit more dangerous somehow.”
