Gems, books and ‘Baskervilles’: 7 events this week

The Albuquerque Antiquarian Book Fair is returning this weekend, and you can find vendors selling vintage and rare books, along with modern first editions, ephemera and more. Or check out one of these other events.

Curating creativity

Corrales resident Bob Belinoff, a documentary filmmaker, photographer and visual artist, will present “Concert for Corrales, Selected Shorts, and Art as a Discovery Process,” as part of the Corrales Historical Society’s Speaker Series at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22. Belinoff will show some of his short films, including “Georgia O’Keefe and Me,” and discuss Corrales place as a fertile ground for artists starting over. The event is free but seating is limited. The Historic Old San Ysidro Church is located at 966 Old Church Road in Corrales. 

A good book

The 2026 Albuquerque Antiquarian Book Fair is coming to the Sid Cutter Pavilion at Balloon Fiesta Park from 3-8 p.m. Friday, March 20, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 21. The event will gather vendors from around the United States selling books, postcards, maps, printed collectibles and more. Admission is $8 for both days or $3 for Saturday only. Rock on!

The Albuquerque Gem and Mineral Club is hosting “Treasures of the Earth,” a gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry expo, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 20, Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22. Admission is $5 on Saturday and Sunday, $2 Friday, and free for children 12 and under. The show will be held at the Creative Arts Center in Expo New Mexico, 300 San Pedro Drive NE.

It’s a mystery

The Arthur Conan Doyle mystery, “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” is coming to Popejoy Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20. Tickets are $29.50-$77.50 at popejoypresents.com. Popejoy Hall is located on the University of New Mexico campus. 

‘A Sacred Place’

Quintessence: A Community of Singers will perform “A Sacred Place” at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 22. The performance “honors the fragility of the natural world” and will feature the New Mexico premiere of Alex Berko’s cantata “A Sacred Place.” Tickets are $27.50 at quintessence-abq.com. The St. John’s United Methodist Church is located at 2626 Arizona St. NE.

Historical women

The Historic Fairview Cemetery is presenting a Women’s History discussion on 10 women buried in the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21. The event will be held at on the second floor of The Public Library Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Main Library, located at 501 Copper Ave. NW. 

Backyard benefits

It’s Backyard Refuge Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21. Learn how to create a habitat in your own backyard with talks, walks and demonstrations. There will also be crafts, music and science-circus performances. The Gutiérrez Hubbell House is located at 6029 Isleta Blvd. SW. The event is free, but those interested in attending are asked to register at ampconcert.org.
