Keys to success

Getting mystical

The Dust City Opera is hosting “Sadness, Madness & Mayhem III,” a haunted costume carnival, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. The event will feature alternative folk music, haunted fashion, circus performances, mystical entertainment and more. Tickets start at $25 at ampconcerts.org. Sew creative

Artist and quiltmaker Judith Roderick will be giving at lecture about the bowerbirds of Australia at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. She will talk about the intersection of art and nature, and creative process behind the quilt donated to the Open Space Visitor Center and the unique story behind it. The Open Space Visitor Center is located at 6500 Coors Blvd. NW.

New Mexico inspiration

The Open Space Visitor Center is hosting an opening reception for artist Richard Davidson at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. Davidson is a retired aerospace design and materials engineer. His works are inspired by New Mexico’s landscapes, history and culture. The Open Space Visitor Center is located at 6500 Coors Blvd. NW.

‘Symphonic Dances’

The New Mexico Philharmonic is hosting Roman Rabinovich at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. The “Symphonic Dances” performance will feature works by Nicolás Benavides, Sergei Prokofiev and Sergei Rachmaninoff. There will also be a preconcert talk at 5 p.m. Popejoy Hall is located on the University of New Mexico campus. Tickets start at $41.50 at nmphil.org.

Happy birthday dear Mozart ...

Santa Fe Pro Musica is celebrating Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birthday with a Winter Orchestra Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. The performance includes the composer’s Symphony No. 36 in C Major, K. 425, “Linz;” Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major, K. 219, “Turkish;” and Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, K. 491.
