It’s hard to believe we are in the last days of the year already. There are plenty of events this week to help you get the most out of the finale of 2025 and a few to help you get 2026 started. Happy New Year!

Snow much fun

Sugarite Canyon State Park is hosting a First Day Hike-Lakeside Snow Stomp at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1. The five-mile hike will circle Lake Maloya, with stops for hot cocoa and s’mores. Hikers are asked to bring a sack lunch. Regular entrance fees apply. Sugarite Canyon State Park is located near the New Mexico-Colorado border, northeast of Raton. 

The big chill

Take the plunge at Eagle Nest Lake State Park with the Polar Plunge and Polar Stomp on Thursday, Jan. 1. The hike goes off at 1 p.m. and plungers take to the water at 2 p.m. Warm up after the event with cookies and hot cocoa. Registration for the plunge begins at noon at the visitor center, 42 Marina Way, Eagle Nest Lake State Park in Eagle Nest. Regular entrance fees apply.

Bella Noches

Take a walk among the lights at La Luz de las Noches at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, through Wednesday, Dec. 31. Eventgoers can also enjoy live music at the botanical garden’s pavilion and amphitheater each night. Tickets are $9.95-$29.95 at visitsfbg.org, and free for children 5 and under. Santa Fe Botanical Garden is located at 715 Camino Lejo in Santa Fe.

Playing in the New Year

Joe Illick & The New Year’s Eve Orchestra are coming to the Lensic Performing Arts Center to help you ring in 2026. At 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, the band will hold an open rehearsal with tickets running $5-$20, plus fees, at lensic.org. Then the band will play at 5 p.m. with tickets starting at $38. The Lensic Performing Arts Center is located at 211 W. San Francisco St. in

Santa Fe.

River of Lights

It’s not too late to take a walk through the River of Lights at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden. The event is open 5-10 p.m. through Tuesday, Dec. 30, with a low sensory night lated for Jan. 2. Tickets are $12-$21 general admission, at riveroflights.org, additional fees for ticket upgrades, free for children 2 and under. The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is located at 2601 Central Ave. NW.

A good laugh

Comedian David Koechner, who starred in “Anchorman” and “The Office,” is coming to Quezada’s Comedy Club & Cantina at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31. Tickets are $71.13-$88.14 at quezadas.com. Quezada’s Comedy Club & Cantina is 54 Jemez Canyon Dam Road in Bernalillo.

Welcome to ‘Jurassic Park’

The Erna Fergusson Library is hosting a Movie Matinee for Grown-Ups showing “Jurassic World Rebirth” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27. Snacks will be provided. Erna Fergusson Library is located at 3700 San Mateo Blvd. NE.
