Rodeos, flamenco and the Philharmonic: 7 events this week

For a brief time, when I was younger, I was in possession of a lasso but was bereft of any livestock to catch. While my rodeo dreams were thwarted, you can catch winter cowboys and cowgirls in action this weekend in Red River at the Ski Rancho Rodeo. Or mosey over to one of these other events.

With strings

The New Mexico Philharmonic is inviting you to “Meet the Strings” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, for the second Power Concert of the 2025-26 season. The concert will feature the sounds of violins, violas, cellos and basses, with selections from Ludwig van Beethoven, Ottorino Respighi and Benjamin Britten. Tickets are $2-$36.11 at nmphil.org. The Immanuel Presbyterian Church is located at 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE.

Still conquering

The Sadies, along with Betty Benedeadly are coming to Santa Fe’s Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6. Tickets are $23 in advance and $28 day of the show at ampconcerts.org. Tumbleroot is located at 2791 Agua Fria St. in Santa Fe.

Baile!

Jesús Muñoz Flamenco will be performing nights in February starting at 7:30 p.m Friday, Feb. 6, and Thursday, Feb. 12, and 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 8, with repeats through Feb. 22. Tickets are $39.19-$65.87 at flamencoworks.org, with kids 18 and under free. Flamenco Works is located at 506 Central Ave. SW.

Giddy up

Red River Ski and Summer Area is hosting a Ski Rancho Rodeo at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Teams of three skiers or snowboarders will compete for the fastest time in roping, branding and saddle bronc. Red River Ski and Summer Area is located at 400 Pioneer Road in Red River.

It takes two

Mollie O’Brien and Rich Moore are bringing Grammy-winning American roots music to New Mexico in two concert events. O’Brien and Moore will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Sage Valley Pottery, 4908 Corrales Road in Corrales. Then, the duo will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the San Miguel Mission, 401 Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe. Tickets for the Corrales show are $34.11, and tickets for the Santa Fe show are $34.11-$44.73 at holdmyticket.com.

‘Crown of Roses’

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Patty Griffin is playing two New Mexico concert events this weekend. “An Evening with Patty Griffin” comes to KiMo Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11. Then Griffin will perform at The Lensic Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13. Tickets for the KiMo concert are $40-$55, and $51-$69 at pattygriffin.com. The Kimo Theatre is located at 423 Central Ave. NW, and the Lensic is located at 211 W. San Francisco St. in Santa Fe.

Down a dark desert highway

“Hotel California: A Salute to the Eagles” is coming to Socorro at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, as part of the New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series. Tickets are $10-$22 at nmt.edu/pas. The Macey Center is located at 801 Leroy Place in Socorro.
