To boldly go
New Mexico Museum of Space History is celebrating Astrochimp HAM and his contributions to America’s space program from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. Eventgoers can learn about great apes and early space medicine, educators will lead hands-on crafts aimed at students in grades 2-7, and a handmade costume contest will be judged by museum staff. The New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium at New Mexico Museum of Space History is located at 3198 State Route 2001 in Alamogordo. Admission is $8 at nmspacemuseum.org.
Full STEAM ahead
It’s STEAM Night at the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. The “Arts of Ballooning” features balloon crafts, globitos, live music by Ryan Smith, hands-on demonstrations and more. Tickets start at $3 at artsandculture.cabq.gov with free tickets for qualified individuals.
A ‘Universal Fire’
Singer-songwriter Jeffrey Foucault will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Historic Old San Ysidro Church, located at 966 Old Church Road in Corrales. Tickets are $34.11 at holdmyticket.com.
Weaving a heritage
New Mexico History Museum is hosting Chimayó master weaver and textile artist Irvin Trujillo as he talks about “Rio Grande Weaving: Tradition, History, and Continuity” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. Trujillo will discuss the history and styles of Rio Grande weaving, his family’s eight generations of work and the challenges the art form is facing in the 21st century. Tickets are $10-$15 at friendsofhistorynm.org. The New Mexico History Museum is located at 113 Lincoln Ave. in Santa Fe.
All that jazz
The Placitas Artists Series is hosting a concert event with Los Compadres — John Maestas, John Funkhouser, Arnaldo Acosta and Asher Barreras — at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1. The quartet will play a set list of jazz favorites. A preconcert talk and visual arts reception will begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 at placitasarts.org. Las Placitas Presbyterian Church is located at 7 Paseo de San Antonio in Placitas.
Starring the night sky
The Albuquerque Astronomical Society is hosting its first Star Party of 2026 from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, 2901 Candelaria Road NW. Visible in the night sky will be the moon at the waxing gibbous stage, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and more. Telescopes will be on hand for eventgoers to gaze through. There is a $5 parking fee (cash only, please have exact change).
