‘Candlelight: Christmas Carols on Strings’ sets holiday spirits aglow

Published

Leave the fluorescent behind and enjoy a holiday concert by the glow of candlelight with “Christmas Carols on Strings.”

It will be an unforgettable evening of Christmas carols and seasonal melodies, performed by a local string quartet on Friday, Dec. 19, in Santa Fe, and Saturday, Dec. 27, in Albuquerque, Becca Malech, team lead for Candlelight, said in an email.

The African American Performing Arts Center in Albuquerque and the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Santa Fe will be transformed by thousands of flickering candles, Malech said.

“Each piece blends tradition with fresh musical colors,” Malech said, highlighting both longtime favorites and quieter classics, like “In the Bleak Midwinter” or “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”

Other songs performed will include carols “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “O Holy Night” and “Joy to the World,” she said. Additionally, there will be arranged renditions of “O Christmas Tree,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and more.

“Candlelight’s signature string arrangements highlight the emotional depth of each carol,” Malech said. “While the candlelit setting adds a glowing warmth that transforms familiar melodies into something magical.”
